Patrick is currently writing his second book, tentatively titled Build Smart! It will follow his 50-plus-year quest to advance efficiency in construction through improving communications among architects, engineers, contractors, city planners, and product manufacturers. Patrick will describe how his efforts founding and leading buildingSMART International positioned the organization as an openBIM leader, allowing built-environment and infrastructure project members to seamlessly share data — saving time and money.
In addition, BIM and related tools can liberate architects to focus on design, automating tedious tasks such as coordination documentation and error-checking. Technology — and specifically buildingSMART International’s efforts to certify BIM software for cross-platform compatibility — will reclaim design as the architect’s core role.
